JAPAN gets a FOOD DELIVERY CHANNEL on their Wiis soon!

Bah! Food delivery is cooler there anyway--look at those categories: there's pizza, bento, sushi, traditional Japanese food, Chinese (e.g. ramen), fast food, curry, etc. :P

In better news, we got to have coffee with [livejournal.com profile] _aurelius. Yay! [livejournal.com profile] _aurelius, besides being one of the top eligible single gentlemen of my acquaintance, is one of the friends I'd most like to get to see more of. :p Anyway, hurrah Facebook for helping us realize that we were in the same place for once. Maybe someday we'll live in neighboring area codes or something.

[livejournal.com profile] assaultdoor noted that they seem to have very similar senses of humor. (Watch out, world ...)

Note to self: taking on Japan with [livejournal.com profile] _aurelius as well as [livejournal.com profile] toratigris and [livejournal.com profile] kyspaz would be even more fun! (But Wikipedia claims Ise won't be rebuilt till 2013, so bah. I need to go to Japan before that, I think. NEED.)

Let's Tap for Wii looks kind of cool! I don't know why they're featuring the least visually interesting of the games, but whatever. There's a video at the link--give it a look. I do think the Wi can open up new ways of gaming. Gimmick, schmimmick. And gamers who are turned off by the fact that a game console and some of its games are advertised occasionally with children can pretty much bite me. Games don't have to be dark and edgy to be fun.

Ahem. Sorry, where'd that soapbox come from?

Mint.com is out of beta and will now track your investments, 401(k)s, IRAs, etc. It'll even chart your investments against the S&P 500.

I almost wish there were a social aspect to Mint so you could see what your friends are doing. I know this is a HUGE taboo in American culture--god forbid you know about the state of your friends' finances--but I can't help but think that's part of why we tend to make such bad decisions. We don't have real people-like-us financial models other than our parents, who are obviously at different life stages and started working/investing in a different economy. So they're not even very good models, but they're often the only ones we have.

Stéphane Dion's accent is a little hard for me to understand, but I know the whole French-English thing is a complex sociolinguistic issue in Canada, so I'm not even going to speculate about whether it's a problem. But I hear that Harper kind of sucks, so ... good luck, Canada! I'd try to make more sense of it but I'm having enough trouble making sense of California's politics at the moment--there's a nation-worth of doublespeak right there.

Speaking of France, for those of you who went there recently, you can refresh your memory with Google Street View for France now.

If you need more random Miis to populate your Wii (especially for working out with in Wii Fit, haha), I have some favorites: a panda, a jack-o-lantern-head, Jackie Chan, Barack Obama, Miyazaki, House, Jack Skellington, Snape (made by me!), the Crow, and V (as in Vendetta).

For some reason, my female Miis are more obscure: Yankumi, Peko-chan, Konata, and Yomiko Readman. I wonder why ... On the other hand, I have more female Miis from people I actually know.

Anyway, they're all available for cloning and zooming off to you. xD

I always welcome more silly and random Miis. xD

ha!

"For me and millions of others, anything approaching walking, running or lifting for fitness has always been out of the question on account of the way time slows down so mercilessly."

Exactly! But then he tried Wii Fit...

"I started with a physical age of 63 (according to their calculations) and have managed in a week to bring it down to 58. I expect to be a rorty 17-year-old with accompanying acne and attitude in time for Christmas."

Heehee.

Now, which random Miis do I send [livejournal.com profile] robotazalea and [livejournal.com profile] camicizam, besides myself? The panda? Peko-chan? V (from V for Vendetta?) Obama? Hmmmm.

If you have Wii Fit and are hoping to buy future games that use the board, you should check out Balance Board Blog. They don't have many comments so I wonder if they're getting much traffic, but anyway, it's a good way to read relevant posts if you don't want to deal with all the posts over at nintendowiifanboy.com.

It's not the controller.

I posted in the Nintendo tech forums:
http://techforums.nintendo.com/nins/board/message?board.id=gamehelp_wiiware&thread.id=126

Another guy is having the exact same problem.

It's a very cute and fairly fun game, but I don't know if I can really recommend it. I'm hoping the problems aren't widespread (but are present in enough numbers that it'll get fixed and not ignored).

I decided to take a short break and play My Life as a King, but the darned Wii isn't recognizing waggle, without which you can't play the game. It's registering other controller movements just tine, but the quick waggle of the main remote that is need to summon a helper character and do various important things just isn't registering. I've reset, turned it on and off, switched controllers, re-connected the controllers, unplugged and replugged the sensor bar, and moved the sensor bar. And there aren't many games that use waggle specifically, so I don't have anything else I can test it on. Augh! Ideas, Wii-owners?

EDIT: Hoping it's just that the batteries are low, though they don't appear to be low. Bah.

Yeah, I found a really good, freakishly lifelike Obama Mii on the international Check Mii Out channel. If we're in each other's address books and you want me to send him to you, let me know. :) I love getting random Miis from that channel and my friends--I've got Jack Skellington, Peko-chan, the Crow, Einstein, the Snape that I made, etc. It's stupidly amusing to me to have them on my baseball team or cheering in the background during bowling.

ANNND...just I was going to post this, we lost power! AGAIN! It's the third time in the last 6 months, I think. Our block seems to be vulnerable. So now I'm at Panera. Again.

Man, they REALLY NEED TO GIVE DEMOS FOR THESE GAMES. The Nintendo Channel doesn't give me anything I didn't already read or watch on nintendowiifanboy.com ...

I think I want My Life as a King, LostWinds, and possibly Pop, but I don't actually have any Wii Points, so we'll see. The game show one looks like it's 90% likely to suck, so even though I like trivia games and such, I'm not interested till I hear from other people.
Defend Your Castle is so odd, it looks like Order of the Stick as a web-based game. Not my kind of thing though.

I'm kind of pleased by the idea of being able to send these games as gifts directly to people's consoles. :) We need to set up wishlists or something.
(Sadly, my birthday is not till December. But our fifth anniversary's in August, heehee.)

It's a... dekotora ("decoration truck") game. These are real trucks in Japan; google "dekotora" for examples, or maybe "crazy Japanese trucks." Totally over the top! Customize every bit of your dekotora and race it...and stuff. Yeah, this one's totally not getting localized anytime soon. Hat tip to this post at [livejournal.com profile] wiifanboy.

Nintendo's "check on your Wii repair" web page hasn't updated the whole time I've been checking it. Today, it finally acknowledges that they've received it, and it also has the following entry under "Component Description":

CONSOLE ASSY WHITE RVL

Well, I'm glad we cleared that up.

(Diagnosis: assy!)

Yes, I know that's "ASSY" as in "ASS'Y"--i.e., "assembly." But even ignoring the kindergarten humor I'm prone to when sick, it's not a very helpful note, is it? What does RVL mean, anyway? I want to know what's wrong with it and when it'll be fixed ... Sigh.

Great.

The Wii is rejecting the Wii Sports CD. It makes a whirring noise, partially ejects it, takes it back in, whirs more, then ejects it quasi-violently.

Don't bother entering my Wii code, I guess. :/

Actually, the GameStop folks were a lot nicer than that, but I'm still not going to get one in time for my birthday. :(

(No, I haven't gone crazy. 'tis a video game thing. Also, I have just hit 1006 in Wii Bowling. I know that's lame for most players, but I think I rock. :p)
