Not my sekrit projekt, but anyway: New [livejournal.com profile] m_cat post, for all Stargate fans and members of academia!

For some reason it wasn't showing up on friends lists, so it was re-posted and I've just changed my link to it.

Not much

- The voices in Satchel's head are in Latin. o_O (Note the movement of Bucky in this strip, hee.)

- I finally watched a bit of "The IT Crowd" and I think I need to buy it for [livejournal.com profile] assaultdoor, if I can find somewhere to do that. Hmm. We're not going to buy each other much for Christmas, though, because in January we're going to need to get a TV, a Wii, possibly an entertainment center, and a couch.

- I'm going to turn 30 in December. I want to do something memorable (you know, in a good way, not in a catching on fire way), but it can't cost very much. Let me know if you have any ideas.

[livejournal.com profile] mshades is reading all of the Harry Potter novels, but since everyone who wants to read them (pretty much) has already read them, straight-up reviews would be a bit pointless. Therefore, he's reviewing them in various styles, which have included a power ballad lyricist, an unnamed member of the Bush administration, and a person who is incapable of suspension of disbelief. All very entertaining, and all available right here, with spoilers for every book EXCEPT 7:

Though I probably should have asked whether linking to them here was OK.

I blame the degree of phlegm in my brain at the moment, 'kay? The actual brain cells are heavily outnumbered and considering a strategic retreat to the flocculonodular lobe.

It's mostly serious. But not always. Sometimes they're cranky, ranty, surreal, or just plain silly. See today's post:

A New Theory of Language Loss

It isn't often that one encounters an entirely original theory of language loss, but I chanced on one in this comment by one TB Tabby on this blog post:

This is how languages die out: Over time, every single word in the language becomes slang for something dirty. People didn't forget to speak Latin: they just got tired of all the snickering whenever they spoke.

(Hook yourself up with some [livejournal.com profile] languagelog on your f'list, eh?)

(I still need some linguistics icons, darnit.)

I don't remember where I got it, but it's amusing if you've ever bashed together a web page or do it for a living.

Time Breakdown of Modern Web Design. Possibly the most accurate infographic I've ever seen, barring the "giving up on CSS and using tables" thing.

In fact, [livejournal.com profile] yendi, I had not seen this All Your Cheeseburger animated GIF (no sound). And thus probably someone on my f'list also has not seen it.

Pwned

Pwned. (haxberdashery!)
Pwned. (haxberdashery?!!)
Seems to me that Her Majesty was outdone in the haberdashery department. (Never mind the historical overtones.) Brought to my attention and suggested for labeling by [livejournal.com profile] jennifermward and [livejournal.com profile] assaultdoor. (Original from Day in Pictures at SFgate.com)

if you've seen cat macros and if you've seen Star Trek: loltrek, or We Can Has Tribbles?

And of course, I already say "I'm from Livejournal" on a regular basis ...

[livejournal.com profile] m_cat is diving into the Stargate universe, with predictably crack-addled results. And I am told there will be more posts in the future.

If you send this on to any other Stargate fans (and [livejournal.com profile] m_cat's author would be thrilled if you did), be sure they know that the entire blog is satire and parody, and is written from the point of view of a cat of very little brain.

In which Tim Curry wanders into someone's shop, and brain meltdown ensues...

(Worth reading--we actually DID laugh out loud.)

Oh dear.

Japanese "Kosai": Armchair Theory (of Love). This is a Rahmens presentation in four parts. The others are linked in the sidebar. Basically, it's a textbook of how to find true love through planned dating, and total insanity. Narrated in English and Japanese and subtitled in Japanese and English. (You may have seen their sushi-eating howto spoof, and there are some others with and without subtitles in this Metafilter thread.)

([livejournal.com profile] siderealengine will be especially amused in parts 2 and 4. Think "HADOUKEN!")

Or is this a re-run? Oh well, either way, I was very amused by this installment of Ask Mr. Language Person. It's [livejournal.com profile] m_catesque.

Just remember, confused writers: "Whose" is the past paramilitary form of "whomsoever" and is properly used in veterinary interrogations.

Bwahahah.
