I do love obvious, grade-A handcrafted silliness on April Fool's Day, such as this link that showed up next to my Google Labs stuff in Gmail this morning: Gmail Autopilot. I especially like the bit under "What happens if a sender and recipient both have Autopilot on?"

[livejournal.com profile] hoshizora points out that's a small part of much more silliness from Google.

I'm sure there will be more goodies later. (I expect you already know to check ThinkGeek. Archie McPhee's e-mail informed me they were adding new products, but only ONE of them WAS fake! I suspect it's the telephone service.)

It's worth taking a look before it disappears. It looks so much like their normal page I almost didn't see the funny stuff. Good job skewering themselves! (The spider thing refers to a recent real news story, and the recipes are all a quarter turn off of their real recipes. Heehee.)

And I would believe Antarctica before Fremont, darn them. *shakes fist*

I'll try to save the rest for a post at the end of the day.

- One of the handful of Facebook applications I use is called "We're Related," which lets me put my Facebook-using family members on there and helps them discover each other. It has just alerted me that Barack Obama has confirmed me as a cousin. Heeheehee. (I'm also amused by how many people that's going to totally piss off.)
- [livejournal.com profile] little_details, a community where writers go to get help with details for their fiction, was doing everything in cat macros. No, I mean entire threads. BWAHAHAHAH. (seriously, it's a real thread about whether a woman in Meiji Japan would be able to set up a medical clinic or not. IN CAT MACROS.) Via [livejournal.com profile] darkluna.
- Lifehacker promoted the Freaking Huge URL service.
- Nine Inch Nails: Strobe Light, a new album produced by Timbaland (autoplays cheesy music)
- BugMeNot.com, the classic site that lets you avoid "free registration required" sites ... well, heehee. It appeared to require you to register with BugMeNot. Cute.
- Diablo III introduces the Archivist, a librarian class. Yes, you have to input your birthdate to see the videos. THE SHUSH ABILITY IS JUST THAT BLOODY.
- Leaky Cauldron goes Twitter--I mean, Hooter. And yeah, they made actual Twitter accounts for everyone.
- via [livejournal.com profile] robotazalea, Alpine Legend (basically, YODELING HERO) for Xbox, and I think everyone's seen Fiction World Rocked as Woman Claims No Sexual Attraction to Neil Gaiman. (Also at Tor: Steampunk is so over; it's all about Spaceglam and lots more.)
- CADIE, mentioned earlier, shows up on various parts of Google, including Maps, Images, etc.
- EDIT: Whole Foods is back to normal, but here's a screenshot for posterity.
